Malaysia’s September Highlights

LOS ANGELES – The month of September is set to offer local and foreign visitors of Malaysia a series of exciting sports and cultural events. Below are some of the highlights:

Sarawak Regatta 2013

With the theme ‘Race for Harmony’ this year, the Sarawak Regatta 2013 involves 44 boat races including 5 races under the international events. The main highlight of the event is the Dragon Boat Race, which involves participants from Taiwan and Hong Kong. Aside from boat races, there will be side attractions like “Brooke Swim”, kayaking and duck catching competitions.

Royal Pahang Billfish International Challenge 2013


Yes, the Royal Pahang Billfish International Challenge 2013 only accepts Marlin (1000 pts) and Sailfish (600 pts) in their annual off-shore catch and release fishing competition. Angling enthusiasts from as far as the United States, the United Kingdom and Japan are coming to participate in this adventurous and eco-friendly sport. The billfish are on their active migration passing through the Rompin area to Australia. Come and catch them all!

Kokol International Paragliding Race 2013


Glide across the sky, feel the earth beneath you and finally swoop down like an eagle at the Kokol International Paragliding Race 2013! The event has attracted many local and foreign pilots from as far as Russia, Poland and Switzerland every year due to the beautiful natural landscape of Mt Kinabalu. Gliders will definitely enjoy the panoramic view of the coastal area in Sabah.

1Malaysia Lantern Tourism Festival 2013


The Central Market of Kuala Lumpur will be gaily decorated with thousands of colorful and brightly lit lanterns lining up the streets to celebrate the 1Malaysia Lantern Tourism Festival 2013. Also known as the Mid-Autumn or Mooncake Festival, highlights of the Lantern Festival include the lantern procession, acrobatic performances, as well as festive delights such as moon cakes and baby yams. It’s a celebration not only for Malaysian Chinese but everyone in the country as well!

Labuan Arts Festival 2013

Labuan Arts Festival 2013 is back with a combination of arts and music as the major attractions of the event. The festival aims to promote the unique local cultures especially the ethnicities in Borneo including Labuan, Sabah and Sarawak. Highlights of the festival include the Top Spinning Tournament (gasing pangkah), Graffiti Spray Art Competition and Pearl of Labuan Busking Competition. Besides that, visitors will also be able to enjoy stage shows by local artists, cultural dances and handicraft exhibitions.

Tourism Malaysia Launches the “Malaysia Trip Planner” Smartphone Application

LOS ANGELES – Visitors to Malaysia will now be able to download a free application for their smartphones that puts a complete guide of Malaysia in the palm of their hand. This recently launched application by Tourism Malaysia, called the “Malaysia Trip Planner,” gives travelers personalized, inspiring and practical information on Malaysia, and all you can see and do.

The application’s main features include:

  • *Detailed information on local attractions to explore
  • *A complete schedule of events
  • *A description of places and must-see attractions
  • *A nifty way of planning your itinerary

Commenting on the launch of the application, Dato’ Mirza Mohammad Taiyab, Director General of Tourism Malaysia says, “Mobile platforms have gone beyond traditional advertising and are an excellent way to showcase a country’s diverse tourism offerings. Tourism Malaysia is proud to launch this mobile app to meet the demands of today’s travelers who want tourism information in an innovative way at their fingertips.”

The application organizes travel plans into an itinerary that has all of the visitor’s trip details in one place. Moreover, it provides extensive information on Malaysia’s various attractions and enables quick and easy sharing with friends via Facebook and Twitter.

“The application was designed to create a portable, engaging, motivational experience for users. It’s a great tool to enhance the experience of exploring Malaysia,” says Zaleha Asmahan, Director of IT Department of Tourism Malaysia.

The “Malaysia Trip Planner” application is available for use on iPhone and Android phones in their respective app stores.

Malaysia International Gourmet Festival (MIGF) 2013

Get ready to enjoy a delectable feast as the Malaysia International Gourmet Festival (MIGF) is back for the 13th year! Thirty of the country’s finest restaurants will serve up special menus at special prices, along with a host of attractive offers. The Festival is an integral part of Tourism Malaysia’s “Fabulous Food 1Malaysia” initiative. 2013 Shell Advance Malaysian Motorcycle Grand Prix

27th Mt. Kinabalu International Climbathon 2013


The ‘World’s Toughest Mountain Race’ is back to challenge those who are game enough to run up and down Mount Kinabalu in a few hours. (Best time recorded was 2:33:56 in 2010). The two race courses in this year’s Climbathon are: the Summit Race (33km, 19th October) for elite runners and the Adventure Race (23km, 20th October) for non-elite runners. Towards the end of the race, all runners will be greeted by the locals, dressed in traditional costumes.

Rhythm Of Kinabalu (ROK) 2013

Malaysia Introduces ‘MYPass’, Making Travel for Visitors Hassle-Free

LOS ANGELES – With the launch of the ‘MYPass’ travel card, visitors to Malaysia can now conveniently travel within the country and save money while doing so. ‘MYPass’ is a prepaid and discount flash card issued by Touch ‘n Go, Malaysia’s leading e-payment service provider. ‘MYPass’ can be used to pay for products and services, in cities such as Kuala Lumpur (KL), the country’s capital, and wherever the Touch ‘n Go signs are displayed, including KL’s public transport, retail stores, restaurants, theme parks, attractions and more.

The card can be reloaded from as low as RM10 and up to a maximum of RM1,500 at convenience stores, transit stations, petrol stations and selected retail outlets. Visitors can purchase, reload, and refund their ‘MYPass’ pack from the ‘MYPass’ Mini Hubs at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) Departure Hall Level 5 and The Zon, Low Cost Carrier Terminal (LCCT), the moment they land.

‘MYPass’ also comes with a complimentary SIM pack, which includes discount vouchers. Visitors simply need to present the card along with the voucher to enjoy exclusive discounts and other great benefits.

KL’s public transport is operated by different entities. However, visitors can use their ‘MYPass’ to pay the fare on all of the different transit systems including KLIA EKSPRES, the non-stop airport rail service and the fastest way to reach city center. Avoid having to stand in line to purchase tickets or figuring out the fare schedule. Visitors only need to get their ‘MYPass’ and the transit map, and they are set to go. It is recommended that visitors have a minimum of RM10 per day to cover public transport needs during their stay in Malaysia.
